Overview<\/h1>\n

The Master Series M10 subwoofer is a shallow mount, high stroke, low distortion subwoofer.\u00a0 Using a flat composite fiber cone with a dual gap magnetic structure, the M10 yields 30mm of peak to peak linear excursion and 50mm peak to peak mechanical excursion in a package with a 3 15\/16″ (100mm) mounting depth.\u00a0 The 2.5″ (63.5mm) diameter voice coil with aluminum former ensures high power handling.<\/p>\n

The M10 flat cone is a composite of 3 different fibers with a proprietary structural core.\u00a0 These four layers are laminated together with a high-strength resin that is vacuum impregnated into the assembly.\u00a0 The result is a very strong but light cone, so that rocking modes are reduced but cone flexion is eliminated.<\/p>\n

The M10 uses a ferrite magnet of Y35 grade.\u00a0 With the machined 1010 grade steel for the yoke and washers, the resulting in-gap field strength is 0.8 Tesla.\u00a0 Combined with the 4-layer copper voice coil, the resulting BL is over 20 N\/A (for the DVC4 variant with voice coils in series).<\/p>\n

The 24mm thick dual gap top plate assembly features a 10mm tall and 5.7mm deep rebate.\u00a0 This allows for extended travel and greatly flattened BL (motor force) over stroke.\u00a0 The rebate is filled with a 3mm thick aluminum ring to reduce inductance to just 0.7mH, resulting in usable bandwidth to 2 kHz, for exceptional transient performance.<\/p>\n

Crossover Frequency<\/h2>\n

As the M10 is a subwoofer, it should be low passed as low as possible.\u00a0 The actual frequency of crossover should be determined by the capability of your components that cover the mid-bass\/midrange frequencies.\u00a0 Typically a crossover point below 80 Hz is recommended; if the M10 is used up-front (in a door, kick panel, or under seat application), the crossover point can be raised.\u00a0 Raising the crossover point can pull the image more towards the M10, but it can also increase the mid-bass output of the system.\u00a0 As always, every install is different and final system settings should be done based upon your application and mating equipment.<\/p>\n

Power Handling<\/h2>\n

Power handling for subwoofers has two basic considerations: thermal power handling and mechanical power handling.\u00a0 It is quite possible to place a subwoofer inside a cabinet where the thermal power handling limit is reached well before the mechanical (motion based) power handling limit.\u00a0 Likewise, an enclosure can result in excessive motion and reaching the mechanical limit well before the thermal power limit.<\/p>\n

Thus when installing a subwoofer one must consider the application in which the subwoofer will be installed, and ensure an appropriately sized and set up amplifier is used to drive the subwoofer.\u00a0 It is often said \u201cclipping kills speakers\u201d; for subwoofers this is not necessarily true, as it is better to clip an amp a bit than to overpower a subwoofer.<\/p>\n

Application Guidelines<\/h1>\n

The M10 woofer is best used inside an enclosure.\u00a0 Small sealed or ported enclosures are recommended. It can be used infinite baffle (rear deck, doors) but protection from the elements should be provided for the rear of the woofer. The best application is completely dependent upon the vehicle, position within the vehicle, and desired output and bandwidth of the system.\u00a0 Your installer should be able to use the provided information above to determine an ideal enclosure for your application.<\/p>\n

However, we do provide a few suggested volumes for various applications based upon a goal such as smallest size, maximum extension, high output, or a combination thereof.\u00a0 Results are based on an assumed 100 Hz 4th<\/sup> order low pass filter.\u00a0 Ported and bandpass assume a 25 Hz 2nd<\/sup> order high pass (rumble) filter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
