Overview<\/h1>\n

The Sonic Excellence S6 mid-woofer is a high stroke, low distortion high output mid-woofer.\u00a0 This speaker features high stroke, low distortion, wide bandwidth, and high power handling.\u00a0 It features a 38.5mm \/ 1.5\u201d voice coil diameter for high power handling and motor force.<\/p>\n

The S6 mid-woofer features an optimized overhung magnetic circuit which provides \u00b15.5mm of linear excursion, allowing for displacement greater than most 6.5 inch mid-bass. The extended pole provides a symmetrical and high linear stroke for exceptional dynamics and impact.<\/p>\n

The S6 has integral shorting rings within its magnetic structure. This feature results in exceptionally low inductance at all operational frequencies and across stroke.\u00a0 This reduces motional intermodulation distortion for a much more open and natural midrange.<\/p>\n

The S6 uses a dual layer thermo-laminated polymer cone with mineral loading for superior damping.<\/p>\n

The S6 uses a custom tooled shallow basket, surround, cone, and spider which results in a very shallow mounting depth so the mid-woofer can fit into shallow locations, enabling creative positioning for best acoustical performance.<\/p>\n

Crossover Frequency and power handling<\/h2>\n

The S6 mid-woofer is a wide bandwidth, high stroke speaker. \u00a0A low pass crossover should be set no higher than 3500 Hz.\u00a0 The actual value should be selected based upon the paired tweeter, midrange, or full-range speaker.<\/p>\n

The bottom end is robust, and can often forego a subsonic filter.\u00a0 The following table summarizes general guidelines about a subsonic filter.\u00a0 As noted above, this is not a hard-and-fast set of limits, and the final installation needs to be considered when setting actual crossover values and gains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Note that with lower power applications, these frequencies may be adjusted down; with higher power, you may need to adjust the frequencies up.\u00a0 Again, the actual implementation of the entire system needs to be considered when installing these products.\u00a0 A small sealed chamber behind the midrange can increase mechanical power handling, but may negatively impact thermal power handling.<\/p>\n
